Army of Two movie coming?
In a rather confusing bit of news, mediocre action title Army of Two has been licensed to Universal and a film's being planned. EA will play the role of producer on the film, with Bourne Ultimatum writer Scott Z. Burns attached to pen the script. Speaking to Variety, he said that "The ambiguity of these private military corporations lends weight to an intelligent thriller with relevance to what's going on in the world right now. You have contractors with their own agendas, and two guys whose friendship supersedes all the politics. I told EA right off the bat I wasn't a gamer, and that appealed to them because they didn't want to simply replicate the game."
Which is a good thing. The game's plot was pretty awful and made for uncomfortable playing. Playing two characters swaggering through real-life war zones, exchanging quips, and shooting everything in sight felt pretty crass. Why bother trying to make the game gritty and real when the action and characters are several notches down from the Gears of War cast in terms of subtlety? If the film's going to be watchable, the best thing that could happen would be if they quietly forgot most of the plot of the game.
