Special edition of Burnout Paradise announced

Burnoutbikes.jpgEA's just announced that a special edition of Burnout Paradise will be hitting shops in February of 2009. Titled Burnout Paradise The Ultimate Box, it'll pack in the Cagney and Bikes updates that have already been released, as well as a a new mode called Burnout Paradise Party. This new mode allows for eight players to participate in offline play by passing the controller pad around and trying to rack up the best scores in different challenges. Should you already own Burnout Paradise, you'll be able to buy Paradise Party separately as DLC.

Sounds like a solid idea. Burnout Paradise was a sprawling racing game, one of the few that actually managed to make good use of its open world design. By its nature there's a lot of room for extra content. Not only that, but the Burnout Paradise was always geared towards delivering fun and spectacle over being an accurate simulation. It's intuitive and instantly gratifying to play, so the offline mode should work nicely, hopefully in a Tony Hawks' Pro Skater "Horse" mode kind of way.
