Work underway on Assassins' Creed sequel, says Ubisoft

AssassinsCreedtower.jpgGiven the sales of the first title, we were never in much doubt that a sequel to Assassin's Creed was planned by Ubisoft. The sequel, which will hopefully pick up the pieces from the frustratingly abrupt ending of the original, has just been mentioned in an Ubisoft half-fiscal conference call. According to one executive, a team is "working hard on the product," but hasn't yet committed to a fiscal 2010 release window, which would see it released between April 2009 and April 2010. It's impossible to say at this stage, but I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the sequel appearing sometime towards the end of next year.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the sequel. The first game featured some of the most amazing tech seen yet in the next-gen, with some of the finest animation I've seen in any medium Unfortunately, it was let down by a simplistic thought out stealth mechanic, repetitive missions, and far too much of an emphasis on simply slaughtering your way to your intended target. It had moments of genius though, and I'm hoping that Ubisoft will have had the time it needs to develop a different and superior installment.
