Aliens: Colonial Marines slated for relase before July

Gearboxlogo.jpgGearbox's squad based xenomorph FPS Aliens: Colonial Marines has been dated for the first quarter of 2009, according to a press statement sent out by Sega. I hasten to add that this probably means financial first quarter, which translates to sometime before this July. The game's set after the events of Alien 3, and sees you boarding the USS Sulaco searching for Ripley and her marine pals. Going by the title, things will not go according to plan.

I'm looking forward to seeing this one. Alien's a rare movie franchise in that it's actually spawned a fairly respectable gaming lineup. The AvP series remains one of the finest moments in PC horror shoot 'em ups and I'm hoping that Colonial Marines manages to capture the uniquely oppressive, scary atmosphere in the same way.
