LittleBigPlanet sells 1.3 million

Create10b_png_jpgcopy.jpgLittleBigPlanet has managed to sell 1.3 million units globally, according to Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai. Not only that, but gamers have created an impressive 300,000 levels since launch.

These are solid numbers, especially for a game that's as unusual as LittleBigPlanet. It's a little odd that it was billed as a system seller to be honest- it's a fantastic little niche title, but it's a difficult concept to market. Given how unique the game is, 1.3 million globally is a really decent performance. OK, if you compare it to the likes of Call of Duty or Metal Gear Solid 4 it might not seem so impressive, but taken on its own merits, it's a solid showing. The first game was always going to be the toughest sell. Hopefully now that the IP has been established, the sequel should find it a little easier going at retail.
